Cigarettes are expensive. The cost per pack is up to $15 in some states and rising. Cigarettes also break from time to time.
As a temporary fix, we end up breaking the cigarette at the filter, dumping out the tobacco the screwing the lighted
side of the cigarette back into the filter. Then we take a drag and not only does the cigarette taste  taste terrible, it separates from the filter and falls apart. We can't get a full drag from a broken cigarette because the break has caused a channel for air to escape. Some smoker’s use tape, if they have, but it's not practical and not healthy to inhale burnt tape. Some users even use toilet paper to fix the break.  Subsequently, we end up tossing the broken cigarette. That's the equivalent of throwing 25-80 cents per cigarette into the trashcan.
